delhi metro exciting update! magenta line extension to underground metro station expected next month

New Delhi: The Magenta Line Phase IV extension from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park is expected to open for traffic by the next month, with the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMC) receiving the final safety certification on Friday. This will add a 2.5 km long section between the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg Metro corridor. Once opened, this section will be the first section under Phase IV to be operational.

"The Janakpuri West – Krishna Park Extension work on the Phase IV section is completed. All mandatory inspections of the section have also been done and the final safety certification has been received on Friday," Anuj Dayal, principal executive director, corporate communication, DMRC said. "Stipulations prescribed in the clearance will be observed and the date of opening of this section will be intimated after the same," he added.

The key feature of this section is the Krishna Park Extension, which is the only underground metro station. The additional line of Phase IV is a part of Line 8 extension – Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden. Meanwhile, the entire 29.3km long corridor — Janakpuri West to RK Ashram — is anticipated to be opened by 2026. There will be a total of 22 metro stations and eight interchange stations.

How Underground Krishna Park Metro Station will Benefit Residents

The Krishna Park Extension metro station will be a great help for the residents living in the nearby colonies as they will not have to go to Janakpuri West Metro Station. Here, the officials will install full-screen platform screen doors. "Such doors are installed primarily as a crowd management feature in the station, as these gates help passengers to queue up properly near the designated door areas. These gates also ensure safer travel for the passengers," said a DMRC official.

The ambitious Phase 4 Delhi Magenta Line extension will be unmanned with the driverless operations in action. The DMRC has already removed the driver's cabin, which means all the 29 trains, scheduled to run on this stretch, will be driverless.
