kolkata rape murder case crime scene compromised 13 people seen inside room near mortal remains

Kolkata: In yet another development in thetrainee doctor’s rape and murder case, a fresh picture has surfaced showing that around 12-13 people were present at the crime scene, which were not linked to forensics or any other agency. When the Kolkata police began a probe into the incident, allegations were levelled that the crime scene was compromised.

Kolkata cops said that these people who entered the room were forensic team members and not unauthorised. The photo shows a crowd inside the room where the mortal remains of the victim were present.

Some of those inside the room could be seen wearing masks and in white coats and a policeman could also be seen in the photo. Times Now has accessed this picture amid an ongoing outrage over the case with a new protest every day in the state of West Bengal. The Supreme Court and Calcutta HC had already pointed out lapses in the probe on the part of the Kolkata police.

What Kolkata Police Said On Photo

Deputy Commissioner, Kolkata Police, Central Division, Indira Mukherjee said that some channels were running that there was crowding inside the cordon. "Please note that 40-feet area inside the seminar hall was cordoned off. That was the PO. The reports were made outside the PO and parents were made to sit also outside the PO but inside the Seminar Room. Also, those people seen inside the room are all authorised persons," she said.

"Those are forensic officials and investigating officials seen inside the cordon. No unauthorised person was allowed to enter the cordoned off area inside the seminar room," she added.

The Case

The 31-year-old trainee woman doctor was raped and murdered inside the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where she was on night duty on August 8. Her semi-naked body was found the next morning (August 9).

The cops, through CCTV and Bluetooth of the accused, arrested him. He was identified as Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer who used to visit the hospital frequently.

Following this, Kolkata police initiated an investigation amid a massive protest by doctors and medical students in Kolkata and other cities across the country. The case was then taken by the Calcutta HC which transferred the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Massive Protest And RG Kar College Vandalised

Multiple hospitals, the Resident Doctors' Associations (RDAs), India Medical Association and Delhi AIIMS among others launched massive protests across the country threatening to further suspend medical services if action is not taken against the accused.

Women, including medical students, doctors and others took to the streets for midnight protests named 'Reclaim The Night' in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chandigarh and other places. However, some miscreants in Kolkata allegedly assaulted the protesters and even vandalised the emergency ward of the RG Kar Hospital.

They also destroyed the medical room and medicine distribution facilities. The incident further angered the doctors who continued agitation seeking justice for their deceased colleague and an Act to safeguard the medical professionals.

Supreme Court's Assurances And CBI Status Report

The top court took cognisance of the matter and asked the CBI to submit a status report. In the next hearing the SC was told by the central probe agency that by the time they took over the case, the crime scene was already altered. The CBI said there were lapses on the part of the Kolkata police.

The SC also asked how the ex-Principal of RG Kar College, Sandip Ghosh, was given another appointment and not questioned first. The Calcutta HC had earlier sent him on a long leave.

Details later came that the family of the victim was first told that she was sick but in the second call, they were told their daughter died by suicide. The autopsy confirmed rape and murder from strangulation. In the latest, the CBI has conducted the polygraph test of the only and main accused- Sanjay Roy, ex-Principal Sandip Ghosh, a cop close to Roy- Anoop Dutta and students who were present with the deceased doctor on the day of the crime.
