Stree 2 has turned out to be one of the most successful movies of 2024. The Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao starrer horror-comedy movie has been universally loved by the critics and audiences. However, there was a slight controversy about the poster of the movie being a rip-off of Stranger Things. In a recent interview, Stree 2’s Janaa, aka Abhishek Banerjee has talked about these copying allegations.

When asked about the similarities between the two posters during a conversation withBollywood Hungama, Banerjee said, “Pata nahi, I have no idea. Yeh marketing aur poster woh log kis tarah se sochte hain humein kya pata. Hum toh actor hain. Hamara toh kaam hai poster pe aana, banana thodi hai (I don’t know. I have no idea. It’s up to the marketing team and designers to think about how to promote the film. We are actors. Our job is to appear on the poster, not create it).”

Did Stree 2 copy Stranger Things poster?
Earlier, netizens had observed similarities between one of the initial posters of Stree 2 and the top ranking Netflix flagship show,Stranger Things Season 2. The common thread that connects the two is the supernatural genre. The dominating factor in the posters is the visual effects. The colour palette and placement of characters are similar too, making it look like Stree 2 team copied the idea of the poster.

Apart from the posters, there are some similarities between scenes in Stree 2 and Stranger Things. Sarkata lives in an alternate dimension, much like Vecna in the fourth season of Stranger Things, and the manner in which Sarkata kidnaps and takes the women of the Chanderi village as hostages made quite a few people think the show might have inspired the film.
