The Duleep Trophy 2024 is set to begin on September 5, and this time the tournament will be extra special as it wull see the involvement of some of the biggest stars from Team India. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on August 24, announced a change in the squads, and one major update was Ravindra Jadeja was released from the competition altogether. He was supposed to be part of the Team B which is being captained by Abhimanyu Easwaran.
The board has not given any reason as to why they have released Ravindra Jadeja from the Duleep Trophy squads. According to a report by Wisden India, the star all-rounder may have been released to manage his workload ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh which begins on September 19. In fact, BCCI have not named any replacement for Jadeja as of now.
Ravindra Jadeja was last seen in action for India in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024, after which he announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game. He was not even part of the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, and according to reports, the all-rounder might not be considered for white-ball cricket for the time being with the rise of Axar Patel.
The other changes on the Duleep Trophy squads is that both Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik have been ruled out owing to illness. While Navdeep Saini replaces Siraj in Team B, Gaurav Yadav replaces Umran in Team C.
