President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated a pivotal two-day Conference of Governors at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday, focusing on issues crucial to achieving national objectives.

Addressing the conference, President Murmu said that the agenda for this conference included issues that were crucial in achieving the national goals. She said that the deliberations of this conference would be an enriching experience for all participants and help them in their functioning.

She further stated that with the implementation of three new laws related to criminal justice, a new era of the justice system had begun in the country and said that the change in our thinking was evident from the names of the laws: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.

She further said that the Central government had been giving utmost priority to the development of the poor, the border areas, the deprived sections and people left behind in the development journey.

She pointed out that a large section of the tribal population lives in the Scheduled and Tribal areas and urged the governors to suggest ways to achieve inclusive development for the people of those areas.

Murmu advocated for natural farming practices to enhance soil fertility and boost farmers’ incomes.

The conference was attended by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah. Vice President Dhankhar urged governors to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities by raising awareness about social welfare schemes and recent developments. PM Modi encouraged governors to act as effective intermediaries between the central and state governments, engaging with underprivileged communities and social organizations.

He further stated that the post of the Governor was an important institution that could play a crucial role in the welfare of the people of the state within the framework of the Constitution, particularly with reference to tribal areas.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah indicated the course of discussions at the two-day conference and urged the governors to visit vibrant villages and aspirational districts to instill confidence among people and give a fillip to developmental work.

On July 28, President Murmu appointed several new governors across the country.
