"Kisi ki tragedy kisi ke liye comedy hai. School me agar kisi ki pant fat jati thi to baki sab has rhe hote par uspar kya bitati thi. Pr mai tab bhi unme se tha jo puri faad kar khada ho jata tha. Confidence zaruri hai. Agar confidence hai to aap kuch bhi kar jaoge (Someone's tragedy is someone's comedy. In school, if someone's pants would get torn, everyone else would laugh. But even then I was one of those who would tear it off completely. Confidence is important. If you have confidence, you can do anything.)
Vikas, who is known for being spontaneous and witty at the same time, is famous for roasting his audience on the spot during his stand-up shows. Many have questioned, ‘Is this guy actually improvising or this is staged?’ Addressing the curiosity and confusion, Vikas said, “Come to my show once, and then take a call.” He revealed that all his shows are completely impromptu, flowing with the audience’s mood.
"To people who are calling it planned, I would like to ask them to come to my shows. People come to my show, I do roast them but I don't cross any lines. I make sure that the audiences enjoy it. Everyone feels engaged. It's not just roasting but I put those videos because that's what people enjoy the most."
"Even my team doesn't know what I am going to perform. I just stay in the vibe and even I don't know what I am going to perform," he said.
Couples are often Vikas's favourite target to speak to and many times people take action on their relationship on Vikas's advice. Some are seen breaking up with their partners while some sort things out. Is it planned or genuine?
Vikas says, "It's a fact that people do this. It happened in my Kolkata show also where a girl was looking sad and I made her call her boyfriend. She did make a call. After 2 minutes of argument, things were fine between them."
The comedian is also being compared to Shikhar Dhawan by some social media users. When asked about the same, Vikas joked, "I also had a doubt." He added that he just wants to be recognised as Vikas Kush Sharma and for his comedy.
Tips For Wannabe Influencers
For people starting off with social media and not getting enough exposure, Vikas said, "Consistency is the key". Sharing tips for them, he said, "Good work is very important. As far as numbers are concerned, you just have to be consistent. Think from the audience's perspective. Work hard. If your work is good then you will definitely get numbers…Stage time is also important. I have even performed at an airport when a flight got delayed."
Vikas has made a lot of jokes on dating apps and is now planning to host his own offline dating show. He said he has seen a lot of scams on dating apps and now wants people to see each other face to face and find a partner.
Speaking about his own experience on one of these apps, he said, "I once got matched with a profile which had a neem tree as a profile photo. Which girl would do that and what would one imagine. Now I want to host an offline dating show and I want to give people a chance to meet each-other and take it forward. It would be such a fun thing if two people come to my show and go back as partners."
Vikas was asked, "Sometimes people come to your show to take some time off and cool down after a fight with their partner but then you are planning to give them an option."
He joked, "Rs 500 mein kaha rishta mil raha hai aapko? Even dating app subscriptions are more expensive. I am finding you a match right there. If you don't like it, I will find another in another show."
Vikas says crowd work stand-up comedy is his forte and it is clearly visible in his stand-up shows. He also runs his YouTube channel which has more than 1 lakh subscribers. His last video 'Didi Kaise Bola' crossed one million views.
Vikas is now on his solo India tour and it's housefull already in most cities. He has delivered three back-to-back housefull shows in Kolkata during his tour titled 'Halki Halki Fati'. But what's the inspiration behind the name?
Speaking about the same, he said, "Whenever an artist steps on stage to perform, he feels slightly scared but when I step on the stage, the audience feels scared wondering who am I going to pick to roast. Once a child had come with his parents to my show and I asked him to take a seat away from them to avoid an awkward situation. He first refused but after just three questions insisted on changing his seat. At this point, I asked him, "Kyu bhai, Halki, Halki Fati?" (are you feeling a little scared?) This is where the name of my tour came from."
