New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Monday gave his approval to the prosecution sanction of five Public Works Department (PWD) engineers for an alleged scam of Rs 200 crore. The permission has been granted to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to investigate 2 Assistant Engineers (AEs) and 3 Junior Engineers (JEs) of the Electrical Division in PWD.
Now, under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption (POC) Act, 1988 (amended in 2018), the ACB will initiate a probe against these five engineers Subhash Chandra Das (AE), Subhash Chand (AE), Abhinav (JE), Raghuraj Solanki (JE) and Rajesh Aggarwal( JE) of Health Zone, as mentioned in FIR No. 08/2024 dated 06.05.2024.
What Did the Engineers Do?
According to the information, there have been complaints against the above Assistant Engineers and Junior
Engineers of PWD wherein it is alleged that they helped in awarding tenders to different companies, favorable to them in the name of Emergent Works at various Hospitals of the Delhi government. Their favouritism cost the state a loss of Rs 200 crore.
The hospitals where the engineers allegedly used their links for the scam include Lok Nayak Hospital, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Science, GB Pant Hospital and Maulana Azad Medical College.
During inquiry conducted so far, it was revealed that the payments were cleared by the above mentioned officials of PWD to the firms/contractors, against forged / fake bills which caused huge losses to the Government. Forged signatures and manipulation in the Spot Quotation was done by the alleged PWD officials in order to give benefit to their favorite contractors / firms.
This led to a loss of about Rs. 200 crore to the exchequer.
