Five people, including three doctors, tragically lost their lives in a fatal accident on the Lucknow-Agra expressway early Wednesday morning. The victims, all from Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Saifai, were travelling through Tirva, a town in Kannauj district, when their vehicle lost control. It crashed into a divider, veered into the opposite lane, and collided head-on with an oncoming truck.
According to the police, the medics were travelling in an SUV, which was reportedly speeding. Investigators believe the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to cross the lane divider and collide with an oncoming truck from Rajasthan. The impact dragged the SUV for a significant distance, leaving little chance for survival, as per an HT report.
Circle Officer of Tirva, Dr. Priyanka Bajpai, confirmed that the victims were returning to Etawah after attending a wedding in Lucknow. “The families have been informed, and legal proceedings are underway,” she said.
Reportedly, the group had attended the wedding of their colleague, Dr. Chetan, in Lucknow and was on their way home when the accident occurred.
Among the deceased were three junior resident doctors—Dr. Aniruddh Sharma (29), Dr. Arun Kumar (32), and Dr. Nardev (32). Additionally, Santosh Maurya (30), a lab technician, and Rakesh Singh (36), a store-keeper, also lost their lives. Another junior resident doctor, Jaiveer Singh, suffered critical injuries and has been transferred to a medical university for treatment.
