Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name in history books earlier in 2024 when he became the youngest debutant in the Ranji Trophy in the modern era. The left-handed batsman broke Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh's record. Vaibhav was only 12-year-old when he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar against Mumbai. He played one more match against Chhattisgarh.
Sachin was 15 years and 230 days old when he played for Mumbai against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy. Yuvraj Singh only 15 years and 57 days old when he made his red-ball debut. Vaibhav was only 12 years and 284 days old on his Ranji Trophy debut.
He had already played for India U19 before he played for Bihar. He made his return for the Youth Test matches and opened the innings against Australia U19 on Monday (September 30). Vaibhav etched his name in history books by becoming the youngest half-centurion, at 13 years and 187 days, in U19 cricket.
He is now nearing a century and will become the youngest centurion if he breaches the 100-run mark. Vaibhav was batting on 81 off just 47 balls when the day ended. Batting with a strike rate of 172.34, Vaibhav hit 2 sixes and 13 boundaries. India were 103/0 at the stumps. India bowled out Australia for 293 in 71.4 overs.
Vaibhav could once again make it to the Youth ODI team and might be in consideration for the 2026 U19 World Cup. Vaibhav likes to watch Brian Lara and considers him his idol.
"My idol is Brian Lara. I watch his videos and batting style. I just love his 400 not-out innings. I have watched it several times. The best thing I like about him is that he doesn't leave the match in between. He doesn't give up. I have seen the match-winning attitude in him and this is the top-most thing I want to learn from him. I just love the way he used to take the match till the end and then win it. I want to dominate the bowlers the way Lara did," he told TimesofIndia.com earlier in 2024.
