10-year-old girl raped in maharashtra's palghar, 2 held: police

Police in Maharashtra's Palghar district have arrested two people for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl, an official said on Wednesday.

The accused offered some allurement to the minor and took her to an isolated place in Nalla Sopara in the early hours of September 2 and raped her, the official told PTI.

The girl's mother approached the police with a complaint on September 6 following which the accused, identified as Rahul Gende (41) and Shahu, alias Lambu (35), were booked for gang rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, said the official from Achole police station.

The child was sent for a medical examination, he said.

The police did not give the reason why the family approached them four days after the alleged crime.

In a different unrelated incident, Achole Police have arrested three people for allegedly gang-raping a 30-year-old woman in Nalasopara area of Palghar district. The three accused have been identified as Narendra Morya (31), Prakash Singh (26) and Panchraj Singh (35).

Based on the complaint filed by the woman, Achole police station registered a case against the three accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including section 64, section 70 (1) and section 351 (2), news agency ANI reported.

Upon their arrest, the police produced all three accused in the court. Later, the court sent all three accused to police custody for 5 days, the ANI report added.
