10-year-old girl murdered in bengal had several injuries, her limbs were broken, says family

The minor girl, who was allegedly kidnapped and murdered in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district yesterday, had grievous injuries on her body, and her limbs were broken, her family said. They also accused the police of not registering the case when the matter was reported to them.

"The body (of the girl) has several injuries on the body, limbs have been broken…she went missing while coming back from the tuition…Her father tried to find her everywhere but when he was not able to find her, he went to the Police station but the Police refused to listen to him and asked him to go to the Jaynagar Police station…Police neglected the matter," the victim's aunt said.

The 10-year-old girl was found dead in a field hours after she left her coaching class in Jaynagar area in South 24 Parganas district. Her body was discovered from a field in Kultali area of South 24 Parganas. There were several injury marks on her body, police officials said.

The incident comes nearly two months after the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a state-run hospital in Kolkata. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is already under fire over their alleged mishandling of the RG Kar rape and murder case.

Rape Cases Rising In Bengal Due To Absence Of Timely Action By State Govt, Says Governor

The BJP has claimed that the minor girl was raped and then murdered. The party has hit out at the Trinamool Congress-led government over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar claimed that the girl was raped, and called for Chief Minister Banerjee's resignation.

Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose also lashed out at the state government, alleging that absence of timely action has led to rise in cases of rape.

"The cases of rape are increasing because of the absence of timely action. The inept handling of the rape and murder that took place in RG Kar Medical College, by the West Bengal government, is acting as a fillip to similar gruesome incidents getting repeated in the state. The West Bengal government should realise that a stitch in time saves nine," the governor told PTI.

"Under the present government in Bengal, there seems to be no cure for violence. That’s queer," he said.

The girl had left for home after attending a coaching class in South 24 Parganas' in Mahishamari on Friday. Her family filed a missing complaint at night after she did not return home. Her body was found in a field around 3.30 am on Saturday with multiple injuries.

The incident sparked anger and protests in the area during which a police camp was put on fire after vandalising it.

The police said an investigation was launched as soon as the complaint was received.

A 19-year-old man has been in connection with the vase. A large police team has been deployed to ensure the situation does not escalate.
